3M UK v. States of Guernsey

In a matter related to ongoing representation with 3M, the Firm led a team in the defense of 3M UK against a lawsuit filed by the States of Guernsey in the United Kingdom.

The case centered on allegations that 3M UK polluted the island’s drinking water through the use of aqueous film-forming foam (AFFF) at the Guernsey and Alderney airports from the 1970s through the 2000s. The lawsuit sought to impose liability on 3M UK for the contamination and sought remediation damages arising from environmental cleanup.

After coordinating a cross-border defense, 3M UK prevailed at trial, with Guernsey dismissing its claims with prejudice and agreeing to make a substantial contribution to 3M’s legal costs.
