Rodriguez v. The City of Grand Prairie, et al.
The Brewer Storefront represented Victor Rodriguez in a lawsuit against the City of Grand Prairie and the members of the Grand Prairie City Council in their official capacities.
The case focused on the election system of Grand Prairie, Texas, a Dallas suburb with more than 175,000 residents, approximately 30 percent of whom were Latino. At the time of the lawsuit, the six city council members were elected from single-member districts while two city councilmembers and the mayor were elected at large. None of the city councilmembers were Latino. The lawsuit alleged that the election system and prior redistricting deprived the Latino community of Grand Prairie an opportunity to elect a representative city council.
The Storefront ultimately secured a settlement, and the City Council redrew the district boundaries to provide greater opportunity for Latino voters in Grand Prairie.
