Robert Hall, Robert Neumayer et al. v. New York Road Runners Club

The Firm represented nine wheelchair athletes against the New York Road Runners Club, the organizer of the New York marathon, alleging violation of the Americans with Disabilities Act.

The case centered on the treatment of disabled marathon athletes, who during the course of the marathon, become subject to interruptions, delays, and unequal access to media coverage and the finish line. According to the lawsuit, these practices interfered with the athletes’ ability to compete on equal terms with the same privileges afforded to other participants.

Before the court ruled on the injunction request, the case settled, with the New York Road Runners Club agreeing implement reforms disabled athletes their own division and opportunity to compete for cash awards and prizes. These reforms continue to this day and continue to promote access to the New York Marathon for all.
