Villas at Parkside Partners v. City of Farmers Branch

The Firm represented three apartment communities and an individual plaintiff in a challenge to the City of Farmers Branch, Texas, in connection with Ordinance 2952, which required renters to prove lawful residency status before leasing a home or apartment. The ordinance faced opposition on the grounds it was unconstitutional and discriminatory toward the Latino community.

The Firm stopped the ordinance by securing a temporary restraining order in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas, preventing the City from implementing the measure.

On appeal, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit upheld the Firm’s victory and the full court (en banc) reaffirmed the District Court’s decision, permanently striking down the unconstitutional ordinance.
